In response to the need for education to rural clinicians providing cardiac rehabilitation and secondary prevention services, a collaboration has been formed between the WACHS Chronic Conditions Strategy Team (CCST), the Heart Foundation WA (HF), the Australian Cardiovascular and Health Rehabilitation Association of WA (ACRA-WA) and Training Centre in Subacute Care (TRACS WA).
A series of monthly telehealth education sessions is being delivered via VC to WACHS staff. The first of eight sessions was designed as an introduction to CRSP and covered questions such as: what is it, whose job is it and what resources are out there? This session was attended by over 70 clinicians and feedback was excellent.
Session 2 covered the topic: 'Exercise for Heart Health'. This was a panel presentation including physiotherapists and nursing staff and was held on the 6th September.
Session 3 covered the topic: 'Supporting Your Patients - After Heart Attack' with Heart Foundation panelists and was held on the 11th October
Session 4 covered the topic: 'Supporting your Patients - Heart Failure and Arrhythmias' with Ted Dowling and Andrew Maiorana and was held on the 1st November
Session 5 covered the topic: 'Diet for Heart Health: for the non-dietitian and was held from Northam on the 19th February
