We are delighted to congratulate TRACS WA’s Unit Coordinator, Chris King, on the completion of her PhD. Her supervisors were Dr Kylie Russell and Assoc Prof Caroline Bulsara from the School of Nursing & Midwifery, University of Notre Dame, Fremantle campus.

As a passionate nurse educator, it is unsurprising that Chris chose as her topic an exploration of the experience of nursing student ‘belongingness’ when on clinical placement. Having established that students may experience a sense of alienation, rather than inclusion, during their clinical experiences, Chris developed and evaluated a toolkit designed to enable nurses who are involved in supervising students to understand, support and embed a belongingness model into their role.

The skills that Chris developed during her PhD journey in the construction of an online toolkit have also supported TRACS WA in the establishment of our first online pre-learning package for the ‘Principles of Rehabilitation’ module, which has proved highly successful. Well done Dr King!
